I FEEL BETTER ABOUT MYSELF. THAT'S WHAT AFFIRMATION WAS ALL ABOUT REALLY.. ACCEPTING WHO/WHAT YOU ARE... YOGA HAS HELPED. HAVING MY NATURAL HAIR HAS HELPED. IT SOUNDS SILLY BUT NOW... IT'S MY NATURAL HAIR WITH A FEW BLONDE HILIGHTS AND I FEEL SO MUCH MORE NATURAL AND LIKE THE PERSON I FEEL INSIDE.
What was the photo shoot for People magazine like? You know we're going to have a zillion questions when the magazine comes out, so a little detail would be very much appreciated!! ;-)

Along the same lines of the first question, it seemed like you were very nervous during the video shoot for "I Knew I Loved You," so how did you overcome this for the Hold Me video? It was pretty steamy!!!

NO I DIDN'T.. BUT THE WHOLE DONGER..THING.. I DON'T EVEN THINK I SAID THAT! I DON'T USE THAT WORD SO I CAN'T IMAGINE DESCRIBING MY MEMBER AS.. WELL.. A DONGER.

NO. IT'S BASIC TO ME TO BE THE PERSON I AM.
And how did you come up with the 'Elvis' idea for CTY &,again,was that costume your idea?
IT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE ELVIS. IT WAS A CHARACTER I MADE UP CALLED 'DAZZLER' NOTE I HATE THE NICK NAME 'DAZ'.. ANYWAY. DAZZLER WAS THIS WHOLE JOKE ABOUT HOW I HATE DAZ... AND WANTED TO BE THIS OVER THE TOP VERSION OF MYSELF. A LOT OF THE INSPRIATION FOR THE COSTUMES IN THE SHOW CAME FROM ELVIS 1968..VERY LEATHER.. BUT ALSO BRANDO.. FIFTH ELEMENT.. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT THAT WHEN I TURNED UP FOR THE FINAL FITTING IT LOOKED LIKE ELVIS AND I JUST DECIDED TO GO FOR IT.

I ADORE "Mine" and I was just always curious what the inspiration behind that song was. I think it's beautifully dark and moody with so much angst. Was it a 'goth moment' as people say?

Why did SG "skipped" Asia for the "Affirmation" concert? Please come when you do your tour for your up and coming solo album -- our local radio stations are very supportive of you guys and you have many fans in Singapore.

Live from Mexico City
I love Latin people. You all know I love Brazil and have a special connection with the fans in Latin America.. but I gotta give it up tonite to Mexico city.. What an incredible audience and such big hearts. Last night it was a difficult show for me.. it was freezing and the altitude (like in Denver) really affected everyone. It's pretty common to have to use Oxygen between songs in this city and Denver in the u.s.. but last night it was really really difficult for me to breathe and generally sing. So today I made a point of exercising again and doing Yoga and RESTING my voice etc.. and had the BEST SHOW... Thank you God for being there tonite.. because I really wanted to give something special here. And we did.
The audience , I have to say it again.. made us feel so special. One more show tomorrow and then off to the U.K!! Look at Maggs..Spike.. we're coming to rock your world.
Now.. a few things to just let you know..
I really appreciate the way our fans let me have a private life.. As you know I love hanging with you when I can but I really respect that my house.. my private residence and my hotel room are places that I can find peace and solitude. So many people have been cool about that.
I also appreciate you giving Carla the support and respect for her own private life on here. She's such a dear friend to Savage Garden and to me personally and I really appreciate you being so cool.

A Plea to all fans..and a thanks!
First of all..wanted to say farewell to Mexico.. what an incredible experience.. best shows ever I think!
Now.. on to the all important plea..
REQUESTING. I really have to say thanks to Cindy, Dyan, Carla.. everyone involved in your massive support and effort in requesting and getting our songs played on the radio.. but it's time to stop. I think that it is having a negative impact at radio and as a band we are getting the reputation that it's 'fixed'.. now we all know it isn't.. but really this is what I suggest. If you live in area where you want your local radio station to play one of our songs.. ring or email and request it. Simple as that. Mass emails.. phone calls etc simply do not work and cause more damage than good. It's something I never wanted anyone to do... and up until now haven't really had an opinion as I'm so blown away and amazed that you go to so much effort. But honestly.. when it first started.. Cin's Request Site was such a great idea because it let you look up your LOCAL radio and get the details to request. I think that's all it should ever be. Just call if you're local and you want it. In the end.. a good song, with good management and all the right parts in place will always succeed. There are many reasons why Affirmation wasn't a hit.. and had nothing to do with the quality of the song or the support of the fans.. timing.. priority at the record label.. all sorts of things come into play. That's BUSINESS and it's fair. We've had so much luck and success.. AFFIRMATION as an album has sold over 7 million copies worldwide in only ONE YEAR. Our first record took 2 and a half years to sell 11 million and we did a hell of a lot more promotion for it.
We are happy..
We are thankful and greatful
But I think it's time to stop with strategy and just be supportive. Trying to ressurrect Affirmation now is not a good idea. It's over... and we should move on. Request in your local areas or at mtv if you wish.. that's more than any 'pop star' could ever hope from his fans.. but you really must understand that there is no conspiracy against our music... and that radio stations want hit songs. If Affirmation was a hit.. they'd be playing it.
Thanks SO MUCH for going to battle and standing up for us.. but I thought I'd just re-direct your energy a bit.
Just wait and see. I've got YEARS of hits left in me. Go to battle next time!

Space Hugs Shock the Monkey
I'm here in Finland and it's 2am. We just arrived from Stockholm and it hit me tonight that we've been on a concert tour since March this year. I'm so tired!! Last night we left Stockholm on a bus.. spent all day on a Ferry and finally arrived by bus to our warm bed in Helsinki (such a beautiful city from what I can see tonight!)
We started recording in March and doing promo in August of 1999 so it's been pretty non stop for the last year and a half. And now... only 14 shows to go I think!
I sat on the bus with Elisa today and had a talk about the fact that we're all going to miss each other so much at the end of this tour!
All this talk of solo.. solo schmolo.
The band has not split up.
Of course I'm doing my own record next but that's something I can't even imagine at the moment. It's in my 'to do' list... eventually. Haha.. I think I'm going to take the biggest vacation and really appreciate my family and life..It's taking all my energy to give 100% of myself to Affirmation and the final shows of this incredible tour. I really am giving it up for the fans at the moment as you deserve the best.
The shows keep getting better and better because of your enthusiasm.

Obviously my posts are fewer and far between as there has been less to say and less time to do it.
We tend to sleep overnight on the tour bus so there's not a lot of time in hotels or opportunities to get with the online vibe. I always love checking my email though after a few weeks. It makes me feel very popular. Although there's nothing worse than logging on after a hiatus to discover NO NEW MAIL!

The MTV Europe awards were fun.
I didn't think I looked tired at all thankyou very much! I had a good time and got to see two of the view actual live performances (u2, Madonna) up close. Really enjoy u2 gotta tell you. It's a 'beautiful day'..when they're in it.. (geddit?)
Hello to my adorable buddies in Brasil.. I too am devestated we are not bringing the tour there this time. Apologies to Russia.
Hey.. by the end of my career maybe I can have visited every city on the globe.. (who would have thought I'd see Finland?)

I'm sure you might have heard about it.. but in Helsinki, about 2 hours before we were due to go on stage, Andy a dear friend and our lighting tech had an accident and actually fell from the ceiling to the floor of the auditorium. He is luckily alive and will be operated on soon, but he is very lucky to be with us.
Without going into too many details.... it was a huge shock to all of us... Andy is such a beautiful person and a hard worker and loved by all of us. We thank God that he is alive and well and being taken care of by the best doctors in the world in Finland.
The reason I'm posting this is to let you know we appreciate your kind words and to advise that until he recovers from reconstructive surgery, Angi (his dearest friend) has remained in Helsinki to be by his side. This has meant that some portions of the show had to be changed/will be changed until she can return.
Basically this means that Celeste is now singing backing vocals as well as playing Keyboards.. Hopefully Angie will be back on the tour by Nottingham.
We appreciate your concern and well wishes and on this Thanksgiving Day we are thankful for Andy's life.
I wanted to say right here and now that we have the best crew/staff in the world who literally risk their lives every day to make sure our show goes ahead. When not working their asses off, our staff are the most loyal, hardworking, intelligent, funny and, well.. the coolest people a fella could hope to know. We love and appreciate them so much.
Just to let you all know.. we have no intention of taking this board away when the band goes on break. This board, or something like it will exist to support your community.
When we work out some new music.. either a solo thing or a savage one... we'll let you know.
I guess I will be posting more than one more time huh?

Goodbye...For now
Well, this is it! My dreaded final post. Not forever. Just for now. Tonight I sit in my hotel room in South Africa contemplating the year long tour that's just passed before my eyes in what feels like seconds. We have one more show to go. One. I decided to post before that show because once I walk off the stage I will be walking into the first day of the rest of my life. I wanted to put a beautiful rest to the album, tour and 2 years that have been this record and embrace the future. Tonight I sat with dear friends and, like Thanksgiving, discussed the moments of gratitude that I've had as a result of this band, this crew, this tour, these fans..this year. There are so many moments, but most of them involve friendship. Spirit. Connections. I will miss my touring family SO MUCH!! This really as been an incredible experience. 82 shows! 82 high notes in I knew I loved you. 82 crotch grabs (although there may have been more!).. 82 cities.. 82 moments that existed then and there and are now safely filed away in my memory with a smile. This site... your encouragement, support and love.. how can I thank you for that? Simply with those words. Thank you. You are the bomb diggity of fans. The shit! The best in the world and you know I love you. This site will eventually shut down until the future reveals itself. While the band is on hiatus, so will our websites be. When new music arrives... new websites will appear I'm sure. darrenhayes.com is just a thought now... sometime mid next year I'm sure it will spring to life..gasp the first breath of air and introduce itself to the world. What I'm excited about is the prospect of going away now.. living my life for a while.. out of the performer's head space. I get to collect my thoughts.. reinvent and redesign it all. Think up something completely new.
Believe me... it's time for change. I'm excited about the future of music.. of performance.. of spirit. But in order to do this, we really need to disconnect from the busy blurring spinning world of all of this delightful madness.
So with the deepest respect... I thank you all for being a part of this.. for opening up your hearts and minds and coming along for the ride.
